Nissan Kicks when it was launched it guards a good amount of popularity among the SUV buyers. Though being a crossover SUV; still the Nissan Kicks managed a good amount of sales. 1st month Nissan Kicks managed to sell around 1370 units. But as time progress the downfall in it monthly sales was quite prominent and now it has landed up to a point where it seems is less than 100 unit a month.
In July 2019, the Nissan Kicks sold less than the Nissan Terrano. in July Nissan kicks sold only 79 units whereas Nissan Terrano more than double the units of Nissan kicks that is 166 units.
Let’s discuss why there is such a huge drop in Nissan kicks compact SUV as it’s being a few months since its launch and a car that is on the verge of its life span has sold more units.
The Nissan Kicks was launched in January 2019, with an initial price tag starting from Rs. 9.55 lakhs. Nissan kicks helped the manufacturer in January 2019 by boosting overall sales by 55 percent as YOY of the previous year.
Nissan Kicks has a huge feature list compared to the naked Nissan Terrano like
- Two airbags
- traction control
- hill start assist
- 360-degree camera
- leather-wrapped dashboard
- touchscreen infotainment
- Android Auto and Apple car play
- automatic climate control
- cruise control
- push-button start
- keyless entry
- rain-sensing wipers
- automatic headlamps.
The interiors of the Kicks are quite premium and modern compared to the Nissan Terrano. Nissan Terrano is far behind in terms of features and better not discuss them
Engine and transmission
It is offered in a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine option, in 108 Bhp-245 Nm state of tune, and a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 106 Bhp-142 Nm. It shares its platform with the Nissan Terrano but gets a totally more modern and brand-new design than the Nissan Terrano. The Kicks is pricier than Nissan Terrano in terms of pricing and is offered with two engine options:
Nissan Kicks misses out an automatic option whereas the Nissan Terrano offers an AMT option with the 1.5-liter diesel. 1.5-liter petrol engine shared with the Renault Duster (offers a CVT automatic). the petrol automatic is missing. Going by the sales figures Nissan may introduce a petrol automatic option in the Kicks.
The current discounts on offer on the Nissan Kicks, the compact SUV gets the following: Rs. 70,000 cash discounts + 3-year extended warranty + service pack + roadside assistance. More discount is coming up in the upcoming months.
There are no official discounts on the Nissan Terrano although Nissan dealers are offering dealer level discounts to clear its stocks as the car will soon be discontinued. The Kicks sold in India is larger than the Latin American version.
So Summarizing off Nissan Terrano offers various transmission and engine options along with proper SUV looks. Though Nissan Terrano seems to be overpriced and it’s on the verge of getting discontinued the buyers have been benefited on the dealer level discounts provided its customers.
On the other hand, the Nissan Kicks is a quiet premium yet upmarket SUV but still gives the design feel of a crossover. It’s packed with features to the brim but misses out on automatic options that customers in this segment demand off.
Hence this might have been a reason for a continuous downfall and Nissan kicks sale and the slew of upcoming launches in this SUV segment like Kia Seltos and MG Hector has deviated its customers towards them.
With this number of sales figures for kicks, Nissan might offer an automatic option in the coming months. But a new car selling less than 100 units it’s still quite disappointing and if it continues then Nissan might even discontinue the product in the upcoming years.
